Treaty of Rome: nothing!
March 23, 2007 § 1 Comment
According to a Belgian professor of the University of Ghent, Hendrik Vos, the Treaty of Rome alledgedly was an empty paper!
Not that the treaty hadn’t been written, but the treaty didn’t make it to the destination in time where Paul-Henri Spaak, J. Ch. Snoy et d’Oppuers, Konrad Adenauer, Walter Hallstein, Christian Pineau, Maurice Faure, Antonio Segni, Gaetano Martino, Joseph Bech and Lambert Schaus, Joseph Luns and J. Linthorst Homan were gathered to sign the document as it was stopped at the Swiss borders ;-). Anyway, the European Union started of as an empty paper, funny anecdote! Thought I’d share that with you.
