Lightroom trick

If there’s one nasty bit in Lightroom, it’s moving the location of your physical photo files. One reason you might want to do this, is the purchase of a new hard drive.
There are all sort of tips out there on how to do this, but there’s one way to do it with the least amount of effort.

  1. Physically move your files
  2. Open your Lightroom Library. You should now see question marks above your pictures in the library module
  3. In the left pane in the Library Module, there’s a section “Folders” that –you might have guessed– relates to the physical structure of your drives.
  4. For each of the topmost folders, there shouldn’t be that many, you right-click (with Mighty Mouse) or cmd-click and choose ‘Locate Folder’. Look for your new folder, and all the links for all pictures under that tree structure will be corrected in your Lightroom Library
