Yesterday FOSDEM took place, here in Brussels, only a short walk away from where I live. But I decided not to go and honour the event with some selfish compiling of Open Source Software.
What had happened? Filezilla (previous version) downloaded an updated automatically, but this update didn’t start on my computer (Mac OS 10.4.11). Starting it up manually from command line showed me that there were some issues with shared libraries. Surfing to the page for manual download of Filezilla showed me that the latest version was Mac 10.5 only!
So it was time to compile the source and make it work on my version! So I started building wxMac, libidn, gnutls (which requires libgcrypt and libgpg-error). Slowly we were getting there until gnutls fails to build. Everything OK with the configure script, but it fails to link. And now it is so frustrating that my last experience with C/C++ is many, many moons ago!
.libs/libgnutls-extra.lax/liblgnu.a/gc-pbkdf2-sha1.o definition of _gc_pbkdf2_sha1 in section (__TEXT,__text)
../lib/.libs/libgnutls.dylib(gc-pbkdf2-sha1.o) definition of _gc_pbkdf2_sha1
ld: Undefined symbols:
/usr/bin/libtool: internal link edit command failed
make[3]: *** [] Error 1
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

And Google didn’t seem very helpful at the moment!
