A little more than a year ago, my grandfather passed away. He hadn’t been that well anymore ever since he fell of his bike on Bruges’ cobble stones. His parting from us was one with mixed feelings. Sadness and a strange feeling of peace. He’s been a great-grandfather for a good 10 months, a granddad who saw his grand kids growing up to be fine adults (don’t wanne brag, but we’re both doing well, thank you) and a father who saw his sole daughter getting to retirement age.
Today my parents sold his last belonging: the house in Zonnekemeers where I’ve spent loads of time. Now all that seems left is memories, a couple of photographs and the cufflinks that I’ll wear tomorrow.
