iPad, Qantas, Frankfurt Airport

With all that night travelling and fatigue, yesterday, just before the end of our longest travel, we were asked to prepare for landing. Instead of shoving the iPad (with Urban Nomad iPad Case!) in the hand luggage, we decided to temporarily get rid of in the magazine rack in between the seats.
As soon as we got through customs, we remembered we left it there. Sunday morning in Frankfurt. We had no time to go and look for a Qantas desk and Lufthansa personnel told us to contact Qantas soon as possible.
We tried calling Qantas Frankfurt, which got us to an answering machine, no surprise as it was not even 7am. So we tried again at home… same answering machine. We contacted Qantas London, where people seemed to be awake. They offered all the help and assured us that all items left aboard are supposed to be found by security. They also gave us a Qantas Frankfurt number that where we found someone to talk to. The plane shouldn’t leave before late at night, so they would call us this morning.
This morning, we got a call from Lufthansa that the iPad was not found, but they would have the plane checked again in Singapore. Despite there not being much hope for that (security wouldn’t allow non identified objects on board), we held up a little hope. This afternoon we got the final call that the ipad wasn’t found. The person was very apologetic and all… but it leaves a bitter aftertaste to know that either security personnel (from whom you’d expect some work ethics) at Frankfurt airport or Qantas personnel (from whom we expect good customer service and work ethics) has stolen the iPad. Because either you find it and report, or you find it and think ‘finders keepers’.
